Stop

Just west of Brookside Park, this used to be a sidewalk. Many bikers take this path to get to the downtown area of Ames; however, after the floods, bike commuters have been forced to share the street in this area, much like this gentleman. A bit scary is the fact that there isn’t much of a warning when approaching this giant hole—had I not been paying attention, I very well could have ended up three feet below the street. On a similar note—Ames REALLY stinks! Literally! Much of the water has recessed, but there is still some standing. The standing water combined with the mud has left a lingering stench that seems to be getting worse every day. Hopefully the parks will be cleaned up soon.
